But I can't deny that this is a great pistol. in this review I took a look at what I've learned to like about the P365 XL after 2,000 rounds of use, and some things that could be improved.
The Sig Sauer P365 XL is without a doubt the most impressive new pistol I have tried in a long time. Today I want to talk about why it has quickly become one of my favorite carry options.

Back in the 1990s, the Double Miracle Nine's heyday at the time, the compact revolver was a full-sized double handgun with the grip cut off. and a slightly shortened slide and barrel. for subcompact They shortened everything a bit more. We can see a perfect example of this in many of the popular models of the time, the Glock 19 Compact and its subcompact Glock 26. Starting making their own polymer pistols in the early 2000s, they followed the same basic pattern.
Then, a few years ago, the single-stack polymer 9mm came along and shake things up. In 2012, the Smith & Wesson Shield wasn't the first gun. But it's the gun that pushes the single stack 9 out of its specific state. and became one of the most commonly used handguns in the country. ever since We've seen a number of handguns. Many new single-action polymer 9mms from all corners of the industry. And now we are all tired of them. Especially those of us who have to evaluate and review these things in our lives.
In January 2018, Sig Sauer saved us from never-ending boredom with something really slightly different: the P365. It was the size of a stack of nine. But somehow they can stuff ten rounds into this little magazine clown. A typical 9mm single-stack magazine holds 6 to 8 rounds, but this is not a single-stack magazine. Totally The top three or four rounds in the magazine are more or less stacked. but then the magazine tapers outward and downward. Rounds are sorted like stacked twice.
The gun was very popular. He has received all kinds of awards. There were some early credibility issues. But the worst problems seem to be gone after the first year or so. Last May, Sig released a version with a frame-mountable manual safety. And last July they released this version: the Sig P365 XL.

It has the same sleek profile as the original P365, but has a longer barrel and a slightly longer grip for flush-fit 12-round magazines. Sig also makes an additional 15-round magazine. It's about 3 ounces heavier than the standard P365 loaded at 26.3 ounces. Much of the extra weight comes from the longer slide and 3.7-inch barrel instead of the 3.1. Manual — This one has a safe. It has an XSeries flat trigger, which is only available as an aftermarket upgrade for the original P365. There is also a standard Sig X-RAY3 night vision unit and a slide machined to accept a micro red-dot optic.
It's worth asking why I'd be interested in this gun, or the P365 in general. The lone troop praised with a few extra shells in the tank didn't help me much. If I were to seriously consider a handgun for personal use, The gun had to be easy to shoot, comfortable to carry, and meet my personal safety standards. I'll come back to the first two in a moment. Let me put safety aside, or maybe "risk management" is a better term.
If you have been watching my videos for a while now. You know, for semi-automatic rifles. I tend to prefer hammer guns. Whether it's a double or a double/single. I like having the ability to lock the hammer with my thumb. to keep the gun from slipping out while in the holster. The Striker Regulator for Glocks is the next best option. It does the same thing as the hammer when reholstering. A manual safety is a distant third option. But it depends on the design. I would consider it a pocket gun.
I don't think safety is for everyone. I am extremely reluctant to recommend a manual safety for novice shooters or anyone who doesn't train regularly. But I will draw and holster thousands of times in both dry practice and in the field. Every cushion has the potential to become a serious accident. All it takes is one distraction - a momentary loss of interest.

So, in addition to following all best practices for safe gun handling and safe holstering, I would like to have at least one additional layer of security mechanisms to mitigate the risk. I especially like it if that extra layer doesn't affect the functionality of the gun. Whether or not this manual safety is debatable.
I am going to pour a lot of love into this gun and say how amazing it is. But this manual safety is bad. It's not scary either. It's not like the little safety you'll find as an option on the Smith & Wesson Shield, and it's not as bad as the odd safety on the LCP .22 LR I talked about a few weeks ago. It has a positive click on and off and is painted. It could be much better though. It's not wide enough and should be placed about a quarter of an inch forward on the frame.
I don't know why gun makers make this mistake. I think it's further proof that the people who made these design decisions didn't really shoot. There are many good examples of portable safety equipment. So there are no excuses. not to know what such a device should look like
I mentioned the safety of the M&P 22 Compact before. It's not big at all But wide enough for you to rest your thumb while shooting. when you hold a gun The knuckle of the thumb will naturally come down on the safety to release it. You can't miss The P365 Security was barely big enough to use and small enough that I would periodically miss it on my first try. And if I put my thumb The sharp in the back rubs against my thumb as the gun moves away.

The appeal of the Sig P365 XL is not just its small size and portability. Many guns are small. This gun is small and shoots. And is small, different from other pistols. Let's take a look at the size comparison. So that I can show you what I mean.
