In January 2018, Sig Sauer saved us from never-ending boredom with something really slightly different: the P365. It was the size of a stack of nine. But somehow they can stuff ten rounds into this little magazine clown. A typical 9mm single-stack magazine holds 6 to 8 rounds, but this is not a single-stack magazine. The gun was very popular. He has received all kinds of awards. There were some early credibility issues. But the worst problems seem to be gone after the first year or so. Last May, Sig released a version with a frame-mountable manual safety. And last July they released this version: the Sig P365 XL.

It has the same sleek profile as the original P365, but has a longer barrel and a slightly longer grip for flush-fit 12-round magazines. Sig also makes an additional 15-round magazine. It's about 3 ounces heavier than the standard P365 loaded at 26.3 ounces. Much of the extra weight comes from the longer slide and 3.7-inch barrel instead of the 3.1. Manual — This one has a safe. It has an XSeries flat trigger, which is only available as an aftermarket upgrade for the original P365. There is also a standard Sig X-RAY3 night vision unit and a slide machined to accept a micro red-dot optic.

It's worth asking why I'd be interested in this gun, or the P365 in general. The lone troop praised with a few extra shells in the tank didn't help me much. If I were to seriously consider a handgun for personal use, The gun had to be easy to shoot, comfortable to carry, and meet my personal safety standards. I'll come back to the first two in a moment. Let me put safety aside, or maybe "risk management" is a better term.

If you have been watching my videos for a while now. You know, for semi-automatic rifles. I tend to prefer hammer guns. Whether it's a double or a double/single. I like having the ability to lock the hammer with my thumb. to keep the gun from slipping out while in the holster. The Striker Regulator for Glocks is the next best option. It does the same thing as the hammer when reholstering. A manual safety is a distant third option. But it depends on the design. I would consider it a pocket gun.

I don't think safety is for everyone. I am extremely reluctant to recommend a manual safety for novice shooters or anyone who doesn't train regularly. But I will draw and holster thousands of times in both dry practice and in the field. Every cushion has the potential to become a serious accident. All it takes is one distraction - a momentary loss of interest.

So, in addition to following all best practices for safe gun handling and safe holstering, I would like to have at least one additional layer of security mechanisms to mitigate the risk. I especially like it if that extra layer doesn't affect the functionality of the gun. Whether or not this manual safety is debatable.

I am going to pour a lot of love into this gun and say how amazing it is. But this manual safety is bad. It's not scary either. It's not like the little safety you'll find as an option on the Smith & Wesson Shield, and it's not as bad as the odd safety on the LCP .22 LR I talked about a few weeks ago. It has a positive click on and off and is painted. It could be much better though. It's not wide enough and should be placed about a quarter of an inch forward on the frame.

I don't know why gun makers make this mistake. I think it's further proof that the people who made these design decisions didn't really shoot. There are many good examples of portable safety equipment. So there are no excuses. not to know what such a device should look like

I mentioned the safety of the M&P 22 Compact before. As it is, the trigger on this little guy is probably the best I've gotten out of any compact carry gun. It's incredibly crisp with minimal creep, little overdrive and short, crisp resets that are both audible and tangible. The trigger guard blade (which replaced the previous shield's central trigger shoe) is nice and wide and flush with the rest of the sole face, just barely curved when pressed. Shooting and rear-firing the SIG P365 and Springfield Hellcat upgraded with an aftermarket trigger, note that the S&W M&P9 Shield Plus was the trigger quality winner of the group. Cleaner and cleaner with less creep than the other two, slightly lighter breaking weight and shorter reset. Lovely.

Add to that the ergonomic, ergonomic shape, the grip that fills the palm well, and the perfect grip texture, and this bad boy is one hell of a shooter. It sits as firmly in my grip as any factory rifle.

Despite being a light and compact gun, it made absolutely no attempt - not even a hint - to rotate or move in my grip. Not only is the Shield Plus well-adjusted with its synchro action and recoil spring design, but the shape and feel of its grip make it one of the most controllable and best-selling small carry pistols around.

At first I assumed the grip would be a bit wider to fit a thicker magazine, but it isn't. Smith & Wesson found room for additional capacity through a combination of a thinner magazine well and spring design and/or by opening the grip frame internally without moving it outward.

Honestly, aside from the slight texture modification, the amazing trigger, and obviously the extra 9x19mm rounds, there's not much to add to Dan's Shield 2.0 review at the end of 2018. The Shield Plus is effectively identical externally and in every other way.

The Shield Plus is on the left next to the SIG P365 on the right. I have to say that the photo comparison makes it look like a bigger difference than in real life, but there's no doubt that the fist itself is bigger. Barely thicker, but much longer from front to back and is also longer (maybe half an inch longer in the back with a perfectly fitting filler).

That extra length from front to back is part of the reason it shoots so well. It fills the hand better than the small grip of the P365.

Next to the Springfield Hellcat, the length is closer. I definitely preferred the rounded shape of the Shield Plus grip over the blocky Hellcat grip. The 18-degree grip angle and palm bulge of the Shield Plus are also suitable.

Before we loan this gun back to Smith, I'm going to find a holster for it and see how it holds and conceals compared to the P365. I already know I can shoot it like a full size pistol, but with the longer backstrap and different grip angle, I'd like to see how that holds up for me.

There's no question, of course, that the M&P Shield series has been one of the best-selling (more than three million shields sold according to Smith & Wesson), the most popular concealed carry pistol lines on the market for nearly a decade, so we all know, that this is a perfectly hidden little package. I just have to try it...you know...for the sake of science.

Should P365 be feared? Yes, maybe a little. Now that the M&P Shield has returned to the scene with a competitive advantage in the form of the Shield Plus, it is once again a serious contender for my IWB remedy.

Dan and I spent most of the day shooting the S&W M&P9 Shield Plus and left the range realizing that this is an absolutely gorgeous little gun in every way. The Shield left half a star on the table in Dan's 2018 review, but the Shield Plus picked it up with ease.

Eh, the armor line has always struck me as a simple gen. Although I can certainly handle the four-inch scoped and round-barreled versions. It looks great. But concealed means concealed, and I wouldn't choose my carry gun based on how nice it is.

RELIABILITY * * * * * The Shield line has a solid reputation for reliability and this Shield Plus straight out of the box gave us no reason to think otherwise. I ate four brands and types of ammo with ease.

Lovely. The shape, angle, size and feel of the handle is great. Likewise, the trigger feels very good on the finger and the serrations on the slide are pleasant but not punishing. If I could change anything I would keep the rear derailleur teeth forward.

Not only are there 10 different Shield Plus models when the new line launches, but compatibility with "old" Shield parts means all kinds of accessories, upgrades, cases and more are available on day one.

Despite the ergonomic improvements and increased magazine capacity, the Hellcat Pro is still designed for easy concealment, with an overall length of just 6.6 inches, or just 0.6 inches longer than the original Hellcat. Additionally, the Slide Pro comes out of the box with an optical cutout that makes it similar to the OSP and RDP models.

While there's no doubt that the original Hellcat is smaller, lighter, and easier to conceal than its Pro counterpart, both are great carry guns sized for easy concealment in a decent holster.

It's worth noting that the Hellcat Pro, despite being longer and taller, doesn't have a thicker handle than the standard version. This factor helps prevent noticeable printing during concealed carry.

Both pistols are chambered in 9x19mm, and the 0.7-inch difference in barrel length does not mean a significant difference in muzzle velocity or accuracy.

While some shooters may argue that the Hellcat Pro's slightly longer scope radius is beneficial for accurate long-range shots, the difference is minimal. No Hellcat is designed to be used at longer ranges for self-defense. So, as long as the shooter is up to the task, both pistols provide more than adequate accuracy.

The main performance difference between the standard Hellcat and the Pro is magazine capacity. The standard Hellcat comes with either an 11-round magazine or an extended 13-round magazine, while the Pro only accepts the 15-round magazine designed for it.

Although the latter has a larger capacity, the Hellcat still offers an exceptional maximum of 14 rounds of 9x19mm in a sub-compact platform that minimizes practical differences.

If necessary, a 15-round pro mag is fine for a standard Hellcat. However, it protrudes from the bottom of the frame and potentially makes the gun uncomfortable to hold.

The ergonomic differences between the Hellcat and the Hellcat Pro should be familiar to shooters who have experience using compact and subcompact pistols in the same family. Both pistols have similar controls and share separate parts: magazine release, bolt release lever, ejection lever, and trigger system.

The only noticeable ergonomic difference is the height of the handle. While both feature the same grip construction and thin finger grooves, the standard Hellcat only has two grooves, while the Hellcat Pro is tall enough to feature three, suggesting the latter may be the better choice. It is probably the second to gain traction since SIG won a military contract for a new pistol. Both companies are very dynamic and produce some of the best guns on the market.

I owned a P365 and had a lot of time with a Glock 48 prior to this event. I will start by saying that they are both very well made weapons. Both are reliable and will serve you well in a concealed carry role. Without any more handshakes, let's talk guns.

Both guns are 9mm semi-automatic. The Glock has an attractive nPVD finish, while the SIG has a black Nitron finish. Both rifles have 10-round magazines, and the SIG P365 has a factory 12-round magazine option. The guns are compact and lightweight, with the SIG weighing 17.8 ounces and the Glock 48 weighing 20.74 ounces.

The SIG has a shorter 3.1-inch barrel, while the Glock 48 has a 4.17-inch barrel. The Glock's extra weight security is due to the extra barrel length. The Glock 48 is 5.03 inches tall and the P365 is 4.3 inches tall. Interestingly, the SIG P365 has a sight radius of 4.9 inches, while the Glock 48 has a slightly longer sight radius of 5.09 inches.

Sighting radius is important for accurate shooting, and small guns have a short radius. Although the Glock has a longer sight radius. It also has a much longer barrel. SIG has done everything it can to increase the sight radius. They push back to deliver as much as possible.

I most admire SIG's sight radius as well as its general specifications when it comes to concealed carry rifles. Generally small. The length of the Glock grip makes the pistol easier to draw and fire. The Glock 48's barrel is slightly longer than the Glock 19's, which makes the gun legal in Canada. The details in this P365 vs. Glock 48 contest are ultimately more important on an individual level.

The Glock comes with standard Glock plastic target sights. I have never been a fan of these sights, and most Glock owners agree. Replacing the Glock sight is almost mandatory; Or at least it's a solid first upgrade.

Another subjective class that makes comparing weapons more difficult. SIG will soon have a thumb safety model, but neither has a manual safety. Both guns have solid triggers that have a short pull and a clean break. The SIG has a slightly smoother trigger, but the Glock has a better reset.

The SIG has a small grip that barely fits in my hand. The Glock 48's longer handle works better for me. I have large hands and they don't feel awkward gripping the G48. The magazine release is larger and more accessible on the G48. Both the SIG and G48 have reversible magazine releases.

Reloading is also easy with the G48. On the P365, my large hands often prevented me from releasing the magazine. This is not a problem for the G48. The Glock 48 is a bit more powerful in our battle P365 Vs Glock 48.

Sig P365xl Vs Glock 43x

This is a strong thread. Both guns are incredibly reliable and will eat anything you put through them with relative ease. The guns are FMJs and hollow points, as well as aluminum; Rifles with both brass and steel bullets are reliable. These guns can eat anything.

As comfortable as the smaller 9mm pistols are, it has a slight advantage. Just poetry. Both are easy and painless to control when practicing and shooting. It won't tire you out or hurt you from shooting it in heavy bursts. Both guns represent their brand well.

Oh how much of a decision do you make about gun prices? I ignored the MSRPS and looked at the real world prices. The SIG retails for $499.99 in most stores, and the Glock 48 appears to sell for about $449.99. The SIG comes with night sights and it's worth the $50 to me.

In addition to gun prices, the magazines for the Glock 48 are also cheaper. I've seen about 20 of them. P365 magazines fall in the $40-50 range. The Glock 48 is a cheaper pistol overall, and for some this is a big factor when comparing their SIG p365 to the Glock 48.

Surrender It's a SIG P365. Its small size makes it easy to conceal. I love the sights and the fact that I can carry it around in my pocket. Love that it has a rail and can add a Streamlight TLR-6 to the system for everyday use.
